What is a SIP Trunk?
A SIP trunk can be viewed, and is indeed used, as a replacement for either analogue or digital (ISDN) business telephone lines. SIP trunk route calls over the internet, not over the standard telephone network.
Why would a business use a SIP Trunk?
There are many reasons why a business you should use a SIP Trunk, but the main ones canbe listed as follows-
(1) To reduce the cost of your telephone line rental. SIP Trunks are provided at a lower cost than analogue or digital telephone lines.
(2) To reduce the cost of your telephone calls. SIP Trunks are generally able to provide a lower cost calls as the call is routed over the internet.
(3) Number portability. Once you have switched to a SIP Trunk your business can take the number anywhere in the world, without being tied to a local exchange.
(4) To provide free calls to other site locations that your business may have anywhere in the world.
(5) To provide DDI (Direct Dialing Inwards), allowing all of your staff you have individual numbers (if they do not have already).
(6) It is now possible to connect SIP Trunks to most existing telephone systems, for a relatively low cost.
